Accounting Associate

 

Job Overview:

The Accounting Associate is responsible for client’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations; and managing invoices and tax payments. As well, perform daily accounting tasks such as monthly financial reporting, general ledger entries, and record payments and adjustments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; ensure legal requirements compliance.
  • Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct day book, supplier’s ledger, customer ledger and general ledger.
  • Develop system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts, defining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Complete tax forms
  • Maintain subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Balance subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
  • Update and maintain general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
  • Balance general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents.
  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Monitor any variances from the projected budget.
  • Follow the company’s information security and privacy policies and procedures in all aspects of work as part of the company’s compliance to ISMS and PIMS.

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Internet required.

  • Solid understanding of basic accounting payable/receivable principles
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Follow info security and privacy procedures and policies.

 

Education & Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Business Admin/Accounting or similar discipline
  • Proven accounting experience.
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting administrative function
  • Public accounting experience an asset
  • Special consideration given to student graduating from a coop accounting program at Community College or University
